What it means to be a Christian...

So, you'd like to be in heaven someday? You'd like to know with some certainty that you're OK with God? Those are wonderful desires. What is your plan to make it all turn out as you would like?

Many people are uncertain about their eternal destiny. They scramble through life thinking that if they can just DO enough to earn God's favor, then somehow God will let them into heaven. But can you ever DO enough to earn God's favor? Many religions of the world say you can. Christianity says you cannot.

The Bible makes it clear that even on our best day we fall short of God's standard for getting into heaven - perfection. God is holy. Mankind is riddled with a rebellious (sinful) disposition. No person in their own merit has even a remote shot at eternity with God. That's the bad news.

The good news is that God has recognized our serious dilemma and in His love has DONE for mankind through Christ what we could not DO for ourselves. This is the unique message of Christianity. It's called the good news of God's grace. Through Christ - His death on the cross and His resurrection - our sin and guilt have been removed. He accomplished what we could not do on our own.

Becoming a Christian means to stop trusting in what we DO (that's the rebellious and proud approach) and begin trusting in what God has DONE for us through Christ (that's the grateful and humble approach). That's what believing in Christ is all about. We stop trusting in our own efforts and going our own way and begin trusting God and going His Way.

Once we have trusted in Christ, it's time to begin growing in that faith. That involves obedience and we learn how to be obedient by studying His Word to us, the Bible. Then we can get on with the basics of Christian growth.

If you do not own a Bible, you are welcome to request one from The Chapel at 135 Fir Hill in Akron, Ohio at no obligation. If you have made a decision to trust Christ and would like to discuss your journey with someone, please call 330-376-6400, ext 3330.

OUR MOST IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIP

We were created with value and worth. God wants our lives to be meaningful.

Did you know...

God loves us and created us to have a personal relationship with Him.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

Our sin keeps us from having a personal realtionship with God.

"...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..." Romans 3:23

Only through Jesus Christ can we have a personal relationship with God.

"For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God." 1 Peter 3:18

We must personally respond by trusting Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God..." John 1:12

How to receive Christ:
  1. Admit your need (I am a sinner).
  2. Be willing to turn from your sins (repent).
  3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the Cross and rose from the grave.
  4. Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit (Receive Him as Lord and Savior).
What to Pray:
Dear Lord Jesus

I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins, I want to turn from my sins. I now invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as Lord and Savior.

In Jesus' name. Amen
